During the summer, visitors to Newport, RI can see and even sail on the famous 12 Meter sailboats in the harbor and East Passage. this class became very famous for The America's Cup racing event during the 1950-80's. One day while painting en plein air , I saw three sailing by, heading for the Atlantic ocean and captured a few photos just as they tacked. Later in the studio, with much care for accuracy, this original oil painting came to life on my canvas. The Castle Hill lighthouse is another famous and important working lighthouse known by sailors from all over the world.
